Water quality monitoring in recirculating aquaculture systems

Abstract Good water quality in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) is crucial for ensuring the successful growth and survival of reared species. So far, there are no regulations which parameters should be measured RAS, each farmer decides to follow. Traditionally, have been at certain intervals with handheld sensors laboratory analyses, can labour intensive. Currently, a variety monitoring equipment available, even real‐time parameters. Internet Things‐based artificial intelligence applied purposes allows measurements warnings critical situations. However, many modern need competent users require regular maintenance calibration. Changes also induces changes fish behaviour, such as swimming activity, depth, acceleration assessed based on these changes. In this review, parameters, technologies summarised provide an overview current quality. Additionally, analytical methods more advanced analyses briefly summarised. Although several options available basic still required further development.
